CASE STUDY

LV Furniture

A wholesale furniture manufacturer moved off a legacy on-prem AD and ERP environment onto a modern Microsoft 365 plus Business Central stack, with UniFi networking, SharePoint file storage and EDI into their larger client supply chains.

Overview

LV Furniture is an Australian furniture wholesale and manufacturing business operating from a combined office and warehouse. BaseHost has modernised the entire environment from a legacy on-prem Active Directory and ERP setup to a managed Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central environment, with UniFi networking across office and warehouse, a standardised desktop and laptop fleet, and EDI integration into their larger client supply chains.

The Situation

When BaseHost took the engagement on, LV Furniture was running a traditional and increasingly fragile environment. A local desktop fleet with local printers, a local AD server, and an on-site ERP running on hardware and software that were past end-of-life. The previous IT vendor was keeping the ERP alive on a case-by-case basis around its unsupported state. The brief was to modernise the foundation without disrupting the business that was running on top of it.

What We Delivered

Desktop fleet modernisation. Small form factor desktops standardised for on-site staff plus laptops for staff who work portable or remote. One managed fleet under one operating model with patching, monitoring and security baked in.

A full network rebuild. New internet provider, new networking equipment. UniFi switching and Wi-Fi deployed end-to-end across the office and warehouse footprint.

Microsoft 365 with SharePoint as the file backbone. Local file shares migrated into a SharePoint environment shared across the business and out to their client networks where the relationship called for it.

ERP modernised in two phases. The legacy ERP was first lifted into the cloud for stability, then converted and migrated onto Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. Business Central now runs LV Furniture’s entire inventory, supply chain, accounting and payroll.

EDI integration with the larger customers. Bulk exchange of ordering and delivery information automated via EDI with the larger customers that needed it, so the orders flow straight into the business systems.

Remote print-back for warehouse and label workflows. Devices that operate remotely can print back to the office, which matters for the label printing and the physical printing the manufacturing side of the business depends on every day.

A refreshed catalogue-style website. A modern web presence appropriate for a wholesale business, kept current under our ongoing website management.

The Outcome

  • From end-of-life on-prem to a fully modern cloud stack with Microsoft 365 plus Business Central running the business day to day.
  • One ERP across the whole business, covering inventory, supply chain, accounting and payroll.
  • A modern UniFi network across office and warehouse, replacing equipment and a provider that had reached their useful life.
  • Remote and on-site staff working from the same managed fleet, with remote staff still able to print labels back to the warehouse floor.
  • One technology partner managing the environment on-site and off-site, with the legacy vendor and the legacy ERP both retired.
